Alliance Artist Management proudly welcomes the Spektral Quartet to our outstanding roster of ensembles. Called “highly-interactive, creative, and collaborative,” and “unlike anything its intended audience - or anyone else - has ever heard” by Gramophone, the string quartet has gained a stellar reputation in its home town of Chicago, and beyond.
At the heart of Spektral’s mission is the goal of pursuing a conversation between works of the classical canon and new repertoire. Spektral is known for creating seamless connections across centuries, drawing in the listener with charismatic deliveries, interactive concert formats, and bold, inquisitive programming.
The group was nominated for a 2017 Grammy award for Serious Business. The record, on the Sono Luminus label, was called “delirous” by Alex Ross, and is an exploration of humor in classical music (with music by Sky Macklay, David Reminick, Chris Fisher-Lochhead, Haydn, and more). They recenty performed the Chicago premiere of Morton Feldman’s notorious six-hour String Quartet No. 2 at the Museum of Contemporary Art. And the group’s Mobile Miniatures project rallied more than 40 composers from across the nation, including David Lang, Augusta Read Thomas, Nico Muhly and Shulamit Ran, to write ringtone-length pieces available for download to mobile devices.
Alliance President Rob Robbins says, “Spektral Quartet represents the heart of our company’s mission. Command of the core literature is clearly evident, and the playing is crisp, engaging, and bursting with musical ideas. But there is a special place the group takes audiences with every single program: with Spektral, programs are not a list of pieces but part of a bigger story. We are convinced they have a bright future, and we are thrilled to help them achieve it.”
