Inspired by the innovative American artist Alexander Calder, the Calder Quartet continues to expand its unique array of projects by performing traditional quartet repertoire as well as partnering with innovative modern composers, emerging musicians, and performers across genres. The group was awarded the 2009 ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award in recognition of its exciting programming and collaborations.
May-19-2010 — The Calder Quartet has announced the release of Terry Riley's first string quartet and string trio in time for the composer's 75th birthday on June 24, 2010.
Calder Quartet met Terry for the first time at the LA Philharmonic's Minimalist Jukebox Festival in 2006. They performed his Trio and Quartet, which had been sitting on a shelf for over 40 years. Bringing these pieces back to life for him was exciting- he likened it to "being reintroduced to old friends." In commemoration of Terry's 75th birthday this world premiere recording is available for download and as a limited edition of 75 vinyl records numbered by hand and signed by the Calder Quartet...
