The Calder Quartet
Released: June 18, 2008
The recording is emblematic of a concert program the Calder Quartet would typically present, pairing a contemporary piece with older works, allowing the new and the old to influence one another. All three of the pieces on the album share a certain delicacy and offer the opportunity for unique interpretation. The recording is centered on Thomas Adés's Arcadiana and includes Ravel's String Quartet in F and Mozart's Quartet in F Major. The quartet's interest in Adés began 8 years ago when the group was students at USC, and has grown with this new recording and the upcoming performance of Arcadiana at Disney Hall where the Calders will be working with the composer himself.
