There are composers and performers who have left an indelible mark in music with tunes that are instantly recognizable and timeless. Cantus has crafted their latest program, "On the Shoulders of Giants," as a tribute to artists who have inspired them and continue to inspire each generation of new musicians. The program includes masterworks from Bach, Wagner, Grieg and Schubert alongside works made famous by the great performers of our age like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Ella Fitzgerald and Simon & Garfunkel.

Cantus explores sacred music as an American and global tradition. From the music of the Renaissance to ancient Hebrew and Arabic texts, and early and modern American composers, Cantus finds common ground in the rich and diverse languages of sacred music. "That Eternal Day" brings particular focus to American sacred music and includes audience favorites by Paul Manz, William Billings and Bobby McFerrin.

In the 2010-2011 season, Cantus traces the immigrant journey in "Before Us." From setting sail, to finding a new home and embracing a new community, "Before Us", explores how "we all come to look for America." The program will include sets that trace the development of music through time and space, as it weaves itself into the fabric of American musical history.
