<p>Calder will release the recording digitally, and have teamed up with frequent collaborator Dave Muller (creator of the album artwork for the quartet's two previous releases) to create a limited-edition vinyl version of the recording.</p>]]></description>

		  <title><![CDATA[Calder to Premiere Rouse's String Quartet No. 3]]></title>

		  <description><![CDATA[On Friday, June 18, 2010, the Calder Quartet will perform Christopher Rouse's String Quartet No. 3 written for the group by the composer. This world premiere is part of the International Festival of Arts and Ideas in New Haven.
<p>The concert will be an evening celebrating the chamber ensemble repertoire of Pulitzer Prize winning American composer Christopher Rouse. Calder will be joined by flutist Tara O'Connor, clarinetist Michael Byerly, and harpist Bridget Kibbey for <i>Compline</i>. The Yale Percussion Group will perform <i>Kuka Ilimoku</i> and <i>Ogoun Badagris</i>.</p>
<p>String Quartet No. 3 was commissioned by the International Festival of Arts &amp; Ideas together with the Calder Quartet, Carnegie Hall, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, La Jolla Music Society for SummerFest, and the Barlow Endowment for Music Composition at Brigham Young University. This commission was also made possible by the Chamber Music America Commissioning Program through funding generously provided by the Argosy Foundation Contemporary Music Fund.</p>
<p>The Calder Quartet performed Rouse's String Quartet No. 2 at the International Festival of Arts &amp; Ideas in 2006.</p>]]></description>

Presented annually, the awards recognize ensembles, presenters and festivals that have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to 20th- and 21st-century music, especially works written in the past 25 years.
<p>This year's recipients are:  Alturas Duo, ARTSwego, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Carlsbad Music Festival, Chris Byars Ensemble, Earshot Jazz, International Contemporary Music Ensemble, Painted Bride Art Center, and So Percussion.</p>
<p>Frances P. Richard, ASCAP's vice president and director of concert music, will preside over the awards ceremony.  After the presentation, Terrance McKnight, host of WQXR's Evening Music program, will moderate a conversation with the award recipients.</p>]]></description>

Presented jointly by Chamber Music America and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, the annual awards recognize ensembles, presenters and festivals that have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to 20th- and 21st-century music, especially works written in the past 25 years. The independent panel of judges also considers originality and innovative presentation as well as audience-development strategies.<br><br>
Chamber Music America (CMA), the national service organization for the ensemble music profession, was founded in 1977 to promote artistic excellence and the economic stability of the field, and to ensure that chamber music, in its broadest sense, is a vital part of American life. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is a membership organization of over 250,000 composers, songwriters, and publishers of every music genre and is the only U.S. performing rights organization created and governed by its members.]]></description>
